Music marketing in today’s society
I was speaking to a music group on campus today that asked me “ why do all music sound the same”? “I miss the time when people were artists”. I feel that that is a very good question. Many artists in all genres of music are losing the artistic side of music for two reasons. Executive individuals in the music industry may change them or the money changes them. They quite possibly never have any real artistic talent to begin with. I feel that the independent artists and music groups may give hope to bring back the creativity to the music industry for the following reasons.
Social media websites give indie artist a mass social appeal. This enhances the opportunity for the artists to show their creative side. They also have the opportunity to create a following on a worldwide scale. Myspace Music could very well be the leader for independent artists. Now indie artists do not have to be signed to a record label to generate revenue for their music.
Because they haven’t been exposed to the executive side, the indie artist can show pure passion in their music. It is true that the executive music companies due have tenure in developing artist. But Artist such as Ray Charles created genres of music during a time where artistic expression was looked down upon my record companies. Some managers and executives may not be focused on an artist growth on the creative scale.
One thing is certain Indie artist is bringing a new creative aspect in music that has never been experienced before. And they have new opportunities to express themselves everyday. Youtube, Myspace Music, Facebook and many other social media networks as well as other websites that allow society to have a musical experience that hour forefathers could only dream of. I would love to hear your opinion on how you feel.
